Two schools
The Porsche Cayenne 3 rd generation is on the market since 2018. The big SUV manufacturer of originating Zuffhausen refined his style to become one it is today. He imposes it, it does not change. However it displays more dynamic features and a resolutely modern style like its technological fires. In the rear view mirror, the 4 diodes in each block of lights are obvious, just to be seen even better.
The Panamera, the large sedan plays it a little more traditional. If it surprised at its beginnings, now it fits well into the automotive landscape. It also shares design elements with the Cayenne, first of all in its overall shape, and parts specific to the image of the lights for the most visible. The Porsche identity cannot be denied by observing them, for those who doubt it… Both allow in any case to comfortably transport 4 passengers and their luggage. It's up to you to choose your preferred body.
Same atmosphere
On board the Cayenne, you enter into what the brand has done best to date. A Porsche atmosphere, adapted to the 22 nd century, you can hardly exaggerate. The driving position is similar to that of a sedan after all, with a vertical steering wheel in front of you. The carefully chosen finish and materials amaze as much as they reassure. As for equipment and ADAS, do not look, there is nothing missing to transform each trip into formality. All of this exudes seriousness, very seriousness even.
In the long Panamera (5.05 m), you feel comfortable in all the seats, except for the fifth in the center of the back seat. The position invites dynamic driving, without sacrificing comfort an inch. The ambience is no different from the Cayenne SUV, with controls placed strictly in the same places. Another school in terms of how to see the road behind the windshield. However, in the same way, we irreparably want to start the beast and cut the road.
Big heart!
Under the hood of the Cayenne, there is a hybrid engine developing the trifle of 680 horsepower ... you read that right! The set consists of a 4.0 V8 biturbo and a synchronous motor with permanent excitation of 136 horses powered by a 14.1 kWh battery. The latter begins by driving the wheels of this monster who does not say his name, up to 135 km / h maximum with the sole force of electricity. We leave the E-Power world to move to the Hybrid which adapts in real time the use of thermal with the electrical block. The transitions are painless, no parasitic vibration.
He also impresses with his strength, permanently. You can reach 200 km / h in less than 15 seconds, and play with the 300 km / h in peak. The covers finally surprise even more than pure acceleration, no matter how fast you push the mushroom. Out of the express axes, it is also surprising on small roads, demonstrating amazing agility. The weight just reminds us that it is not a ballerina when we are going to tickle the grip limits. Despite the 2 and a half tons, braking does not suffer criticism.
Road sports, urban smoothness
The Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid therefore shares the same mechanics. The performances are almost identical, that is to say simply explosive. They are not so numerous finally to be able to claim a top speed exceeding 300 km / h. Sport Mode, boosted by the Sport Response Button also ensures maximum power for 20 seconds. Useful for passing half a dozen semi-trailers between two pins on the way to winter vacation.
To continue on the chapter of sportiness, we appreciate here the almost non-existent roll and the surgical direction that many cars are jealous of even more turned towards an exacerbated dynamism. We love every moment behind the wheel, despite a sometimes slippery coating. The Panamera reassures. However, when it comes to playing it quiet, the "0 emission" block alone can bring it to a highway speed if necessary. It slips into town discreetly after recess ... However in our reality, the electric range struggles to exceed 20 km (44 km theoretical). We did not necessarily behave very carefully to optimize consumption, we must admit ...
680 horses and no penalty!
These two true Porsches show us that the high-performance automobile still has a bright future. The German manufacturer proves that we can reach an exceptional level of versatility without sacrificing anything, whether luxury, consumption "manageable" and of course driving pleasure. All while aligning the kilometers to 4 (or 5 but it is not recommended…) without any problem with their luggage, in one and in the other. In terms of recharging, they work like all the other PHEVs (around 2.5 hours). 680 horses without penalty, who says better? Apart from registration fees, nothing to add to the € 175,377 or € 195,917 (excluding options) to afford this Cayenne or the Panamera Turbo SE-Hybrid.
